Exhibition Statement:

Opening Reception: October 22, 2026 - 4:30pm

At its heart, 域妢ウ釵莽喧ウ單妢  (meaning "cause them to see"; "show") speaks to more than vision alone. It evokes the sensory, emotional, and intellectual experience of witnessing. It asks us to consider how acts of sharing, storytelling, and artistic expression shape our understanding of ourselves and one another. Perhaps causing others to see what we see does not provide answers so much as it inspires further questions, deeper reflection, and new ways of understanding.

In the spirit of 域妢ウ釵莽喧ウ單妢, the Amelia Douglas Gallery at 做厙51 invites you to join us in witnessing the achievements of a group of inspiring Indigenous artists who exemplify creativity, ingenuity, and excellence. In their own unique ways, these artists honour ancestral traditions while engaging contemporary art forms and media. Their work stands as a testament to resilience and innovation, bridging past and present through practices that are both culturally grounded and artistically original.

By embracing the essence of 域妢ウ釵莽喧ウ單妢, we are invited not only to see, but to bear witness. This exhibition is more than a celebration of artistic accomplishment; it is an opportunity for visitors to engage with the stories, histories, perspectives, and futures carried within these works Through their creations, the artists offer insights into diverse Indigenous ways of knowing, being, doing, and becoming.
