Course descriptionAn overview of the language used by healthcare professionals. This is an introductory course and appropriate for anyone interested in working in a healthcare environment. There are no pre-requisites required.

Grades

This is a graded course. Participants must complete all modules with a pass rate of 70%. 

A Recognition of Completion document from the department and college transcript are available upon request.

Instructor

Ivanna Smetanska is a healthcare professional with over 10 years of experience in clinical, pharmaceutical, and health information settings.  She holds a Bachelor’s and master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Medical University in Ukraine and a Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Health Information Management from °µÍø51, where she developed strong expertise in medical coding, electronic health records, and health data systems.

Her academic and professional background includes a strong foundation in medical terminology, pharmacology, and clinical documentation, which she applies in both healthcare and teaching environments.  Ivanna has experience working with interdisciplinary healthcare teams, data analysis, and quality improvement initiatives, supporting accurate and effective communication in healthcare settings.

In her role as an instructor at °µÍø51, she is committed to helping students build a strong understanding of medical terminology and its practical application in health information management.  She focuses on making complex medical language accessible and relevant to real-world clinical and administrative practice.
